This huge (maybe 20 by 30 feet) picture of Mao looks down upon you as you walk through the Gate of Heavenly Peace (Tian An Men) into the Forbidden City.  Only the Emperor could pass through the center, largest, passageway; lesser mortals entered via smaller gates on either side.  Behind you is Tiananmen Square.
