Image Description

Most people peer over the edge of the Grand Canyon and see only barren rocks.   If you're willing to walk a bit, you will discover many minor canyons with seasonal water and some with permanent springs.  I found this colorful pool, and many others, in Kwagunt Hollow.  I won't say more; get your map out and go find it.

I took this photo on the "rest" day on a Wilderness Volunteers trail maintenance trip.   Several people did a 16 mile hike to get some exercise.  Ann stayed in camp to paint watercolors.  I took my camera and set out in search of a good photo.  I was so taken by the beauty of this area that I went back again alone the next year, carrying a heavy tripod, just to get better photos.  Alas, the stream was bone dry and the pools were just dirt.  But that's OK; now I have an excuse to go back again to this wonderful area.
