Image Description
I took this photo of my friend Rick in 1983 on a weekend
climb of Eldorado Peak in the North Cascades. Eldorado, elevation
8868 feet (2703 m), is one of the most spectacular mountains in the Cascade
Range. It rises 6,400 feet above its base in deep green forests
and is flanked by massive rock walls and sparkling glaciers. As
you can see, the summit is everything a summit should be. (For
another adventure with Rick, read “Outer Space” on the trip reports page.)
The lower slopes of Eldorado are easily accessible to hikers. Being
able to go to places like this every weekend was on of the main reasons
Ann and I first moved to Seattle, which is somewhere in the upper right
of the photo.
