Image Description

Here is another tree, photographed in the Everglades in 1972.  The larger tree is being encased by the strangler fig, which will eventually kill the host tree.  If I ever return to this spot, I'll get another photo and place them side by side to show how much change has occurred in the 30+ years since I took this photo.

Although the Everglades are a fabulous place, I originally regarded the rest of Florida as a waste land of Disneyworld plastic, sterile convention centers, good ole boys, and corrupt elections.  However, I've now made many trips there for business, and my colleagues have shown me the other side of Florida, which you don't see on TV or at a conference.  I now recognize my error—Florida has much to offer in outdoor activities such as sea kayaking, hiking, and scuba diving.
