Canyonlands National Park in southeast Utah is one of my favorite places.
I've been there many times on my own and on Wilderness Volunteers trips (trying to undo
some of the damage done by cattle grazing before this unique area became a national park).
The Needles District is so named because the red and white Cedar Mesa sandstone erodes to form spires several hundred
feet tall, which often enclose grassy areas called parks. I took this photo in
Chesler Park on a Wilderness Volunteers trip.
It will require at least a month for you to get acquainted
with the various areas of Canyonlands National Park. Then you'll
want to go back and revisit every nook and cranny, and wait for the sunset,
and go on extended hikes, and mountain bike, and....
