I have created hundreds of figures during my career as a scientist.
But the only figure I've ever created that is really, truly scary is this
one:
If you want an overview of the earth's population history,
read this excerpt
from my next book.
That anyone can fail to be seriously alarmed by the earth's
uncontrolled population growth is beyond my comprehension. So
how, then, are the world's so-called leaders addressing this problem? See
for yourself:
"...each and every marriage act must remain open to the transmission of
life."
—Pope Paul VI in Humanae Vitae,
1968; since reaffirmed by subsequent Vatican pronouncements
Islam does not forbid birth control, but many Islamic countries have very
high birth rates. Pakistan, for example, has an annual growth
rate of 4%, which will double its population in 18 years.
President G. W. Bush is conducting a war on all forms of family planning,
not just on abortion. On his first day in office, he banned
U.S. government funds from going to international family planning groups;
he removed contraceptive coverage from federal employees' health care
coverage; he has appointed anti-birth control and anti-abortion zealots
to many important government positions; and he is working fervently to
overturn Roe vs. Wade.
Well, you get the idea. Most of the world is in
deep denial about the most serious problem facing humanity. I'll
have a LOT more to say about these matters in my next book. Stay
tuned.
Meanwhile, here are a few of my favorite quotes:
"Faith
is the ability to believe something you know isn't true."
—Arthur C. Clark
"A lie told often enough becomes the truth."
—Vladimir Lenin
"The bigger the lie, the more people believe it."
—paraphrase of a statement by Adolf
Hitler
"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary
safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
 —Benjamin Franklin
"...the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That
is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked
and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country
to danger. It works the same way in any country."
—Hermann Goering, in an interview with
U.S. Army intelligence officer Gustave Gilbert on 18 April 1946, during
the Nuremberg trials.
I'll be adding more to this page as time goes on, but this
is enough to get you started thinking. For some additional
thinking, here is a list of some of my
favorite books.
